A couple months ago we went to Subliminal Projects for their Banned In Babylon: The Art and Culture of Bad Brains show. We initially went to capture some live footage of Trash Talk for our most recent Soundproof episode, who was performing as part of the art show, but we were immediately impressed by the range of Bad Brains themes artwork, the impressive paintings on canvas by Darryl Jenifer, the classic photographs by Lucian Perkins, John Mousheghian, and Jeannie “Aunt Jean” Pawlowski, and the assortment of memorabilia including rare vintage flyers, posters, and records.
The night was topped by live performances by Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains, Chuck Treece of McRad, Peter Stahl of Scream, Moby, and special guests like Dave Grohl. In addition to the Banned in Babylon exhibition, Obey also debuted a Bad Brains clothing collaboration. The goal was to make new images that refer to Bad Brains’ history and authenticity, but also add some Obey flavor in both the artwork and the clothing.
Keep the P.M.A. (Positive Mental Attitude) and check the short video below about the exclusive collab.
