Twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo make up Brazilian street artist duo Os Gemeos – which translates in Portuguese to “the twins.”
The colorful and exuberant São Paulo duo began painting graffiti in 1987, quickly becoming early innovators of their local scene. Influenced by hip hop culture — these dudes were actually breakdancers before anything else — they infuse visual queues of their Brazilian culture into their art, and have created a successful career out of painting richly colored characters on walls around the world.
Os Gemeos brings a new conceptual art show to New York’s Lehmann Maupin Gallery with Silence of the Music, a visual trip down memory lane of b-boys, graffiti writers, quirky neighbors and other characters in between. Keeping things festive, the guys include eye-catching life-size installations and inventive multi-media creations. Peep photos from the show's opening below and if you're in New York try and catch the show before you closes later this week.
