It probably won’t surprise you to learn that Sofie Fatouretchi, one of the core members of the infamously underground Boiler Room team, is a musical mastermind herself. The classically trained musician and creative director of Boiler Room not only runs her own night, Bone Soda, as well as has her own radio show on NTS Radio, but also has dropped a heavy hitting compilation via Stones Throw Records called Sofie's SOS Tape.
Sofie’s SOS Tape is a compilation of underground’s best hip-hop and soul curated by Sofie herself. We think it might be the best audio chronicles for where the underground scene is at this moment, with major placements by the likes of Ahwlee, Stimulator Jones, mndsgn, Ohbliv, and newcomer Charlotte Dos Santos.
Sofie is a 25-year-old force to be reckoned with, having worked for Peanut Butter Wolf's Sone Throw Records, opening sets for underground legends like Dam-Funk and J Rocc, and curating some of the heaviest lineups for Boiler Room. With 24 songs and 26 artists, SOS Tape is an insiders look on emerging acts across the US and abroad: ISSUE (San Francisco Bay Area-based artist and E40’s son) brings space age rap on “Ferrari”; southern producer Stimulator Jones brings R&B stunner “Soon Never Comes.” Other standout tracks include the Fred Fades-produced ballad “WatchingYou” which features the incredible voice of New York via Oslo musician Charlotte Dos Santos – a video of this track coming out next week.
Sofie’s SOS Tape is hands down an enticing selection of artists that should be on your radar, and exposes tracks that otherwise would have stayed floating in DJ sets, shows, and personal mixtapes.
