Professional Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa, 38, now holds the Guinness World Record for the largest wave ever surfed. The monster wave measured in at an astonishing 80-feet tall (basically, as big as a 7-story building). The mountain of water was caught on November 8th, 2017, in Nazare, Portugal.
On Saturday, April 28th, 2018, Koxa officially won the XXL Biggest Wave Award at the 2018 WSL Big Wave Awards.
Koxa’s 80-foot wave was two feet higher than the former record-holding height -- a 78-foot wave ridden by American surfer Garrett McNamara in 2011 at Nazare.
